Automatika Robotics: Building the Android for General-Purpose Robot Era#

Automatika Robotics is an Inria spin-off, based in France, building EMOS (Embodied OS), the industry’s first unified orchestration layer for Physical AI. We are transitioning robotics software from “custom R&D projects” to a world of standardized, deployable assets.

The Thesis#

The robotics industry is undergoing a massive structural shift away from Single-Purpose Tools; robots hard-coded for fixed tasks, towards General-Purpose Platforms. While the broader AI industry races to build robot foundation models, a critical vacuum remains in the infrastructure required to actually ground these models on robots usable in the field. OEMs in this space ship capable hardware with stable locomotion controllers (balance) but provide only barebones SDKs for application development, forcing customers into brittle, custom R&D “patchwork” projects.

By providing a horizontal, hardware-agnostic runtime, EMOS standardizes how robots see, think, and move, transforming commoditized machines into standardized, deployable assets and enabling the deployment of autonomous embodied agents as easily as installing an app on a smartphone.

The Product: EMOS (Embodied OS)#

EMOS (The Embodied OS), is the industry’s first unified runtime and ecosystem for Physical AI. Think of EMOS as the Android for Robotics: a hardware-agnostic platform that decouples the robot’s “Body” from its “Mind” by providing:

  • The Runtime: A bundled software stack that combines Kompass (our GPGPU-accelerated navigation layer) with EmbodiedAgents (our cognitive reasoning and manipulation layer). It turns any pile of motors and sensors into an intelligent agent out-of-the-box.

  • The Platform: A development framework and future Marketplace that allows engineers to write “Recipes” (Apps) once using a simple Python API, and deploy them across any robot, from quadrupeds to humanoids, without rewriting code.

Founding Team#

Haroon Rasheed PhD: Applied Math & GPGPU Engineering (Inria). Specialist in physically grounded AI and sim-to-real transitions.

Maria Kabtoul, PhD : Robotics & Control Theory (Inria). Expert in proactive motion control in human-centric environments.

Founding Roots: 10+ years of collective research at Inria, the premier French lab for computer science.

Unique Selling Points - A New Paradigm of Robotic Software#

  • Universal “App” Portability: The EMOS Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) ensures a written Recipe (App) is robot agnostic: write it once, and it runs identically across wheeled, legged, or humanoid platforms.

  • From Rigid Graphs to Agentic Orchestration: We’ve replaced brittle state machines with a Self-Referential, Imperative API. This allows robots to reconfigure themselves in real-time (e.g hot-swap ML models or control policies), treating environmental chaos as a logic branch rather than a system crash.

  • From Stateless Tools to Embodied Agents: Legacy stacks are reactive and rigid. EMOS introduces Embodiment Primitives, including a self-referential global state and a queryable world-history, that allow robots to reason over their own physical context and past experiences.

  • GPGPU-Accelerated Navigation: While others use GPUs only for vision, we’ve moved the entire control stack to the GPU, with up to 3,106x speedups over traditional CPU-bound stacks, for extremely reactive decisions, enabling high-speed autonomy in unstructured spaces.

  • Schema-Driven Interaction: We’ve eliminated custom HRI development. In EMOS, the Recipe is the single source of truth; defining the logic automatically generates a bespoke, interactive Web UI for real-time monitoring and control.

Traction & Market Validation#

Enterprise Customers

  • First Enterprise Sale: ESA Security Solutions (Greece, 4,500+ employees) uses EMOS for autonomous parking lot inspections, moving beyond teleoperation to true agentic security.

  • Enterprise Pipeline:

    • Skysmart Robotics (France) — integration ongoing; Skysmart is building a robot-rental patrol offering with 3 end-clients already queued to deploy. Targeting 2 sector expos (Oct-Nov 2026) with commercial launch Q1 2027.

    • Security operator in Spain — solar farms & olive-grove monitoring.

    • Early-stage discussions with Amazon and Michelin.

Distribution & OEM Channel

  • Distribution: Distribution agreement with InMotion Robotic GMBH (Europe). EMOS is now pre-installed on all DeepRobotics Lite3 and M20 units shipped in the region.

  • Quadruped OEMs: DeepRobotics (top-3 global quadruped OEM) — Software Service Agreement signed, pursuing factory pre-install.

  • Humanoid OEM Pipeline: Active MoU discussions with RealMan Robotics, Booster Robotics, High Torque Robotics, Leju Robotics.

Ecosystem

  • Ecosystem Partnerships: HuggingFace (LeRobot integration), Heex Technologies (Data Capture), AMD (Strix Halo platform) etc.
